How we can help

You do not have to work through the paperwork alone.

Where a matter is suitable and within our permitted scope, support may include:

  • Explaining legal information and procedures in plain English.
  • Helping organise documents, correspondence and evidence.
  • Preparing a clear chronology of events.
  • Identifying missing information and questions to ask.
  • Researching relevant publicly available legal information.
  • Supporting preparation of ordinary letters and complaints for you to review and send.
  • Helping you understand correspondence and prepare for appointments.
  • Signposting to regulated professionals or specialist organisations where needed.

We do not take over a case, act as solicitor on the record, conduct litigation, file or serve proceedings, or speak for clients in court.

Frequently asked questions

Clear answers to common questions.

Are you a solicitors' firm?

No. The National Community Law Project CIC provides non-regulated legal information and practical support. We are not a solicitors' firm and do not provide reserved legal activities.

Is your service free?

The initial 15-minute consultation is free. Ongoing support is charged at £50 per hour, with the work and costs agreed before it begins.

Can you represent me in court?

We do not offer court representation or conduct litigation. For suitable matters, we may help you understand information and organise your paperwork. Where representation is needed, you should instruct an appropriately authorised professional.

Can you guarantee an outcome?

No. Outcomes depend on the facts, evidence, applicable law and decisions of the relevant court, tribunal or organisation.

Can you assist anywhere in the UK?

Please tell us which part of the UK your matter concerns. Laws, procedures and permitted services differ between jurisdictions. We assess whether we can help before accepting work.

Can you help with an urgent deadline?

Tell us immediately about any deadline or hearing date. Submitting an enquiry does not pause a deadline or guarantee that we can help in time. Seek urgent assistance from an appropriately qualified professional if necessary.

What if my matter is outside your scope?

We will explain our limitations and, where possible, signpost you to an appropriate professional or service.

Can I request accessible communication?

Yes. Please tell us about communication needs or adjustments that would help you use our service. You do not need to provide a detailed medical history in the enquiry form.
